printable wedding invitations

The best free printable wedding invitations are the invitations you design and print yourself. And you can do this with a little research and creativity, your computer and printer and some basic office supplies.

Once you have your design and color theme, you just need to create your invitations in your desktop publishing program then print them out, fold them or cut them in half. Your design can include a wedding watermark, which is a faded picture or design in the background that you print over top of, like a dove, wedding rings, flowers or a bouquet. Or you can simply make a border around the page. How fancy you want to get depends on what you want.

You can get a lot of design ideas just by doing an Internet search for wedding invitations. Find something that you can easily recreate yourself with your own computer programs. If you need a desktop publishing program to create your invitations, Open Source free software has a full office suite that's free and compatible with Microsoft Office products. You can download the OpenOffice Suite at openoffice.org.

Next you'll need the paper or card stock to print the invitations out on. You can get paper at almost any department store in either the office section or for more colors and textures, check the arts & crafts departments. A traditional wedding invitation size is 4.25" x 5.5", or a standard letter size sheet of paper folded exactly in half. You can do a lot of things with this basic design to make your invitations a bit classier or give them a fun look, or whatever you want to do.

If you want a flat one-sided invitation, you'll want to buy a heavier paper or card stock to print the invitations out on. For a folded invitation, you'll want something a little thinner than card stock so when you fold it, it creases nicely and stays folded. But you want the paper heavy enough so the ink doesn't bleed through.

The easiest free printable wedding invitations to make though are the flat invitations printed on one side. You can dress them up easily by punching a hole in the top and adding ribbon or other type of craft embellishment. Or you can use a colored card stock as a backing for a lighter weight paper that the invitation is printed out on. This gives the invitations a classy layered looked which are very nice. They'll look like you spent a nice amount of money on them when all you did was buy the paper stock.

To give your invitations that classy layered look, the card stock would be the 4.25" x 5.5" size, or cut the card stock exactly in half. Then you print the invitation on 24 lb. presentation paper. After you print the invitation, take each one and trim it down by about a half inch all the way around and attach it to the color card stock.

You can put a spot of glue at the top of them and attach the invitation to the card stock or punch a hole through the top of each for an embellishment to keep them attached. Either way you have a very beautiful and almost free invitation. How simple, traditional, modern or classic you want your invitations is only limited by your imagination!
